As Halloween approaches, a frightening and intriguing sight fills the streets of Fairfield, Connecticut, the U.S. An army of ‘mombies’ was seen roaming the urban landscapes, in a video that went viral recently. 

This one-of-a-kind and intriguing phenomenon exemplifies the inventiveness and enthusiasm that Halloween revellers bring to the celebration. These women embraced the craft of special effects makeup and costume design to convert themselves into eerily realistic zombies but it wasn’t for the spooks.

A group of women dressed as “zombies” was spotted dancing in the streets before Halloween. A video of the flash mob dancing to the music of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” was posted to Good News Movement’s Instagram page.

It turns out it’s not just for Halloween fun but also for a worthwhile cause. 

The mothers who dance annually refer to themselves as “Mombies” and they’ve been doing this since 2016.

This Zombie dance by women took place on the streets of Fairfield, in Fairfield County, Connecticut.

How Did The Internet React To This Viral Video?

Internet users embraced the who vibe and wrote: ”I want to be a mombie!” ”How exciting!” ”I’d love to do it!” wrote another. “What a lovely idea!”

”This should happen every month in every city in the world,” mentioned one more. ”Great job,” said a fifth. ”Excellent coordination and dancing.”

Why Are They Doing This?

Every year, this group of moms or ‘Mombies’ dance it out to raise donations for breast cancer research.  

Terry Davis conceived and produced the Mombies. The Cancer Couch Foundation receives all the money it raises for research into metastatic breast cancer. 

The Mombies raised almost $170,000 when they began this project in 2016.

At least 50 mothers of all ages have been practising professionally choreographed dances for upcoming events in preparation for the 2023 frightening season. 

Internet users praised the entertaining project and the important message it conveyed.

“We are a group of moms who have lost our everyday personas to become horrific zombies, roaming the streets for a cause larger than ourselves,” they shared.

“We push ourselves beyond our comfort zones as we dance to raise donations for breast cancer research.”

The Mombie website further read, “Each performance is a fusion of fun, community, and support, creating lasting memories and meaningful contributions to an important cause.” 

“Imagine our neighbors’ shock and our children’s eyes widening as zombies crept out of bushes, driveways, and the front porch! In our homemade costumes, we were eerily alluring as we broke the trick-or-treat routine and took control of the street.”

“Unbeknownst to them, something much bigger was taking shape. The Mombie Movement was founded,” it continues.
