She is a 33-year-old theatrical makeup artist named Megan Royle.

What Happened To Her?

In 2019, Royle reported that a mole on her upper arm had gotten bigger, itchier, and scabbed over, prompting a dermatological assessment at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital.

An initial biopsy resulted in subsequent treatment at the Royal Marsden Hospital for melanoma, a kind of skin cancer. She was then directed to the cancer centre at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Her biopsies showed the existence of melanoma once more. She underwent surgery to treat this, removing the allegedly cancerous tissue with a 2-cm tissue excision.

She additionally had immunotherapy, which might have impacted her fertility. She underwent egg preservation as a precaution to maintain her fertility possibilities.

When Did She Find Out That She Was Misdiagnosed For Cancer?

She moved to the north owing to the lockdown’s effect on her work in the theatre after completing nine treatment cycles, her latest one being in May 2021, and after learning that there were no traces of the disease. During this time, a new hospital trust evaluated her medical records and scans, which led to the discovery of the error in her initial cancer diagnosis.

Where Was She Getting Herself Treated?

She was getting her treatment done at the Royal Marsden Hospital’s specialist cancer unit.

How Did She Get Compensation?

She reportedly remarked in a news report that it took her time to process what the physicians informed her.

Even though you’d assume relief would be the first feeling, I’d say frustration and rage were the more intense feelings. According to the same news report, the two London NHS trusts in charge of her predicament have reached an out-of-court settlement with Royle, whom Hull-based Hudgell Solicitors represented.

“You simply can’t believe anything like this can happen. And yet, to this day, I’ve not had an explanation as to how and why it happened. I spent two years believing I had cancer, went through all the treatment, and then was told there had been no cancer,” Royle of Beverley told the news source.
