Plasma therapy, also known as convalescent plasma therapy, involves using blood plasma from recovered individuals, rich in antibodies, to help treat those currently battling a similar illness, such as viral infections like COVID-19.
The antibodies in the plasma can potentially aid in fighting off the infection in the recipient’s body.
Who is the billionaire who donated his plasma to his father?
Bryan Johnson, a 45-year-old software billionaire, said on social media that his 71-year-old father saw a 25-year reduction in ageing after getting one litre of his plasma.
Following the procedure, his father’s ageing rate now resembles that of a 46-year-old, a huge improvement over his previous 71-year-old rate. Johnson is well-known for his bold attempt to reverse biological ageing.
Why did he donate the plasma?
For the past three years, he has apparently been running a mission called Project Blueprint, in which he has been earnestly seeking immortality. He has engaged in strange behaviour such as sharing blood with his adolescent son, following a strict vegan diet, and spending money on avant-garde therapies such as red-light therapy, among other things.
In a recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter), he emphasized the need for caution and acknowledged the limitations of his father’s results after getting his plasma.
“After getting 1 liter of my plasma, my father’s (70-year-old) aging rate slowed by the equivalent of 25 years and has remained at that level even six months later. What does this imply? We age faster as we get older. My father is now aging at the rate of a 46-year-old after receiving 1 L of my plasma. He was previously aging at the rate of a 71-year-old. I am my father’s blood son,” he wrote.
How did it help his father?
Johnson went on to say that the reduction in his father’s ageing rate could be linked to the removal of 600 millilitres of his own plasma, which raises issues regarding the specific elements impacting the outcome.
His Project Blueprint apparently costs him $2 million (about Rs 16.5 crore) every year in medical tests, treatments, and a meticulously planned schedule of diet, sleep, and exercise aimed at slowing or perhaps reversing ageing.
Johnson claims that his daily practice has given him the lung capacity and physical endurance of an 18-year-old, the heart of a 37-year-old, and the skin of a 28-year-old. His regimented lifestyle consists of getting to bed by 8:30 p.m., consuming 2,250 calories between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m., and participating in four to five hours of serious thought.
He revealed in his YouTube video that he avoids alcohol, takes 111 tablets every day, and combines over 100 vitamins into his routine. His elaborate health strategy includes regular body fat scans, routine MRIs performed by a team of 30 experts, and even blood exchange with his adolescent son.
