For one professional coffee taster, it has become an irreplaceable part of her life, so much so that she can discern the origin of any coffee with just one sip.
Who Is The Coffee Taster?
Jasmine McNaught works as the Technical Manager at Nestlé UK & Ireland, effectively making her a professional coffee taster.
What Is Her Special Power?
Her initial encounter with coffee occurred during her childhood when she assisted her grandmother in harvesting beans in India. Presently in the UK, she focuses on product production and can determine the origin of a coffee bean with a single sip.
Where Did She Get Her Coffee Training?
Jasmine completed an external sensory science course through the Institute of Food Science and Technology. Sensory science involves studying how humans react to the attributes of a product that they perceive through their senses, such as sight, smell, taste, and more.
When Did She Start Her Coffee Journey?
In a conversation with Metro UK, Jasmine recalled, “My earliest coffee memory is from when I was 10 years old, visiting my grandmother in Karakkad in Kerala, in southwest India.”
She also added, “I know most 10-year-olds don’t drink coffee, but this is a really special memory that will always stay with me.”
How Can She Differentiate Between The Coffees With Just One Sip?
Certain origins exhibit particularly unique flavours, and with sufficient time and training, one can begin to differentiate among them, she explained. She gave an example to make people understand, “As an example, Brazilian coffee can have a distinctive chocolate note. And Columbian coffee tends to be fruity.”
While talking about coffee, Jasmine also revealed her current favourite style of coffee and said, “I love a strong, Italian-style roast. I especially love the strong, rich roast of Nescafe Alta Rica and the balanced delivery of Azera Americano.”
