The woman in the video confirms the location of the film as Kawah Ijen Lake in East Java, Indonesia, calling it the ”spookiest place on Earth”. It’s a volcano crater filled with acid that spits blue flames.

Notably, scientists refer to it as “the largest acid barrel on Earth” because of its high concentration of sulfuric acid and other minerals, which give the lake its striking blue-greenish colour.

”One of the most spectacular phenomena at Kawah Ijen is its famous blue flames. These eerie blue flames are ignited by sulfuric gases escaping from the cracks in the volcanic crater, creating a surreal nighttime spectacle,” ESA wrote while sharing the stunning video.

The gasses of this beautiful volcano in the far east of Java island burn day and night, yet its distinctive blue hue can only be seen after dark. By day, traditional miners brave the very deadly vapours to harvest massive chunks of sulphur from the crater’s margins of a big turquoise lake.

Every day, hundreds of people undertake the laborious and perilous journey to fill their wicker baskets with big blocks of the bright yellow, naturally occurring element.

Others, unable to afford such safety steps, merely cover their faces with wet towels, their eyes hurting from the dense bitter smoke. Local firms purchase the sulphur and use it to refine sugar, create matches, and manufacture medications.

Where is the volcano located?

The location of the video is Kawah Ijen Lake in East Java, Indonesia. It’s known as “the spookiest place on Earth” because of the eerie blue flames ignited by sulfuric gases escaping from the volcanic crater, creating a surreal nighttime spectacle.

How did people on the internet react to the video?

Internet users were captivated by the video and wrote a range of remarks. Some people also remarked about their own visits to the place.

”Been there, done that,” one person remarked. ”Be cautious of the sulfur plumes; even with the protection mask on, you can hardly breathe.”

”Given Hell’s “fire and brimstone” reputation, this acid pool might simply be the genuine Hell on Earth,” observed another. ”Spectacular spooky stuff,” said a third. ”Very fascinating,” a fourth added.
