'Google's Unfair Practices Made It A Dominant Search Engine': Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated that Google’s unfair tactics made it the dominant search engine. These tactics have also hindered Microsoft’s rival program, Bing.

Nadella testified in a crowded Washington, DC, courtroom for the government’s crucial antitrust trial against Google’s parent company, Alphabet.

Lawyers from the US Department of Justice are trying to convince a federal judge that Google unlawfully paid billions to Apple and other entities to maintain its monopoly.

The Justice Department claims that Google has misused its influential search engine to hinder competition and innovation, harming consumers. These allegations are similar to a case against Microsoft from the late 1990s.

Microsoft’s Bing has been attempting to increase its market share since 2009, but Nadella believes it can’t compete with Google.

This is primarily because of Google’s arrangements with Apple.

“You can call it popular, but to me, it’s dominant,” Nadella told a Google lawyer during a tense cross-examination.

“We are one of the alternatives, but we’re not the default,” he said.

Nadella supports the government’s argument that Google’s data collection as the leading search engine created a network effect, making it a more potent tool for advertisers and users.

“It becomes even harder to break through when you don’t have market share,” Nadella said.
