A Canadian journalist was removed from a WestJet flight in Mexico due to experiencing digestive discomfort and frequent restroom visits before takeoff. 

Joanna Chiu detailed the upsetting incident on X (formerly Twitter), describing how she was swiftly taken off the plane and left without any assurance of accommodation or a new flight arrangement. 

Chui mentioned that she had entrusted her money to her travel companion, leaving her without funds. She asserted that the WestJet supervisor declined to cover her taxi fare to a hotel.

When she began recording their interaction, he threatened that she would be barred from boarding another flight the following day unless she deleted the video.

The woman, aged 36, mentioned that she later requested to converse with a different WestJet staff member who was “considerably more pleasant” yet still declined to provide her with the specifics of her rescheduled flight. 

Nearly two hours after she shared her frustration about WestJet’s uncooperative behavior, she remarked, “It’s disheartening that I had to publicly share my experience to receive any assistance.

WestJet messaged me my booking reference number after I repeatedly requested it at the airport. I ended up taking a taxi because I genuinely feared being arrested.”
In a subsequent update, she confirmed her safe arrival home. WestJet Airlines apologized to Chiu following the incident, gaining traction on X.
