In today’s world of thieving and mischief, robbers seem to have adopted an unexpected flair for innovation. It’s as if they attended a “Robbery 101” course at the School of Shenanigans, embracing the spirit of creative chaos in their pursuit of ill-gotten gains.
Police in Warsaw arrested a man who pretended to be a mannequin in front of a store window. He stole from a shopping center after it closed. The 22-year-old was seen on CCTV standing still with a bag in the store’s window.
How did the police catch the thief?
According to Polish police, both the store employees and shoppers did not notice anything strange while the man was in the window.
“A 22-year-old with a bag in his hand froze motionless, pretending to be a mannequin in front of a shop window,” police said in a statement. “In this way, he wanted to avoid being exposed by the cameras.”
After the shopping center closed, the man stole jewelry from a stand on one occasion.
On another occasion, he entered a restaurant to have a meal.
Then, he slipped under the roller shutters at the store’s entrance to change his clothes for new ones, as per the police. Afterward, he came back to have more food.
Nevertheless, security personnel eventually noticed him and alerted the police.
The man is also accused of stealing from another shopping center, where he allegedly took money from cash registers and attempted to steal other items after it closed, according to the police.
The suspect may be sentenced to ten years in prison and has been placed in custody for three months.
