He attended Florida State University and concluded his career as the school’s all-time top rusher. The Vikings selected Cook in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Dalvin Cook Early Life

Cook grew up in West Little River, Florida, and went to the same high school as former Seminole running back Devonta Freeman. Deandre Burnett, a basketball player, is his brother. Cook didn’t join the football team until his sophomore year, assuming he wouldn’t be able to replace senior running back Devonta Freeman, who led Central to a Class 6A state championship in 2010. Coach Telly Lockette used Cook as a running back and defensive back. He shared carries with his best friend, Joseph Yearby, in his junior year. Yearby lined up as a wildcat quarterback on running downs, while Cook lined up as a running back. Cook ran for 1,940 yards and 34 touchdowns on 177 rushes (11.0 yards per carrying) as a senior in 2013 and intercepted three passes on defense. Cook rushed for 244 yards and three touchdowns in Central’s Class 6A regional championship victory against Palm Bay Heritage, despite Yearby’s fibula fracture in the first quarter. Cook then led his team to the Class 6A state title, running for 223 yards and four touchdowns in a 52–7 triumph over Seffner Armwood, giving the Rockets their third state championship in four years and making them the first Dade team to reach four straight state finals.
