‘Bloody Daddy’ stars Shahid Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Diana Penty, Ronit Roy and Rajeev Khandelwal in lead roles.

Bloody Daddy Review: After the success of ‘Farzi’, Shahid Kapoor is back with another OTT project ‘Bloody Daddy’, streaming on Jio Cinme for free. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, ‘Bloody Daddy’ is the adaptation of the 2011 French film ‘Sleepless Night’ which was also remade in Tamil as ‘Thoongaa Vanam’ in 2015, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role.

THE HISTORY:

Sumair Azad (Shahid Kapoor), an NCB officer, cracks down on a drug deal with his team in Gurugram. This leads to drug lord Sikandar kidnapping Sumair’s son Atharva in exchange for retrieving the bag of cocaine. In the midst of this situation, Sumair learns that some NCB moles are working with Sikandar and they are racing against time to save the life of his son.

REVIEW:

What works in the movie: The action sequences are well choreographed and are the highlight of the movie. The background score elevates these action scenes to another level and is an absolute joy to watch.

Also, the camera work is spectacular, making the action sequence look more stylized but realistic at the same time. The interplay between the characters of Shahid Kapoor, Ronit Roy, and Sanjay Kapoor is unintentionally funny and will make you laugh several times, especially in the first half. As the film is set in Delhi NCR, the location has been used brilliantly with chase sequences shot in the lanes of Connaught Place.

What doesn’t work: The first one manages to captivate the viewers’ attention, but in the second half, it starts to lose control. Although the performances and actions are brilliant, the script is mediocre and predictable. The plot brings nothing new to the table and you won’t be surprised. It seems that more attention is paid to the action scenes than the plot, which becomes the biggest downside of it.

PERFORMANCES:

Shahid Kapoor has given some fantastic performances earlier in his career, but he never looked so charming as in ‘Bloody Daddy’. He plays the role of Sumair, a narcotics officer, which will make you question the morals of him. Shahid carries the film on his shoulder and is brilliant in every scene. The portrayal of Sumair’s relationship with his son is beautiful but questionable and Shahid has perfectly demonstrated this with his stellar performance.

Diana Penty gives a serious performance as the honest narcotics officer, but doesn’t get many opportunities to show off her acting chops. Meanwhile, Ronit Roy, who is usually seen in dark and gritty roles, is unintentionally hilarious as hotel owner and drug dealer Sikander. His scenes, especially with Sanjay Kapoor, are amazing and you can’t help but laugh out loud. Even though Ronit Roy’s character is an absolute evil, you can’t hate him. Rohit Khandelwal as Sameer is a delight to watch and he is compelling as an antagonist.

Sanjay Kapoor is also hilarious in his scenes but his role got cut short. Shahid’s on-screen son in the film puts in a good performance as Atharva, but the film did not explore the father-son relationship as it should have. Ankur Bhatia and Vivaan Bhatena don’t add much to the plot, but they do convince with their small screen presence.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

‘Bloody Daddy’ is a fun movie to watch once, especially if you’re looking for some star action. However, the plot seems half-baked as the movie is too focused on its action rather than its characters and it becomes predictable in the end. However, the performances, dialogues, action and background score are top notch and save this sinking ship.
