The aviation industry is embroiled in a major discussion, and it is likely to spark heated debates again.

Air New Zealand will now weigh passengers flying to international destinations and their baggage prior to flight.

According to Air New Zealand, the Civil Aviation Authority mandated that the passenger weighing initiative be a mandatory survey. Its objective is to guarantee the safety and efficient operation of aircraft.

Between May 29 and July 2, passengers on specific Air New Zealand flights departing from Auckland International Airport will be asked to step on the scale.

An Air New Zealand spokesperson confirmed in an email to FOX Television Stations that the passenger stopover is voluntary and no one is required to participate.

They ensured that the data collected would remain completely anonymous to those who chose to do so.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), maintaining proper control of weight and balance is crucial to the safety and efficiency of aircraft.

Overloading an aircraft can lead to several problems, such as reduced speed and angle of climb, decreased cruise speed, compromised maneuverability, and the need for a longer takeoff run at higher speeds.
